Marjut is an artist as much as a filmmaker: illustrator, set designer, model maker, painter and digital artist. Her advertising work reaches well beyond the screen, into illustration, print, product design and packaging. Her Hellä Mietonen shampoo bottle, sculpted in clay at Womena in Helsinki in 1972, is in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and her original artwork has been shown in six exhibitions in Britain.

A shampoo bottle shaped like a human figure, released in Finland in 1972 and re-released in 2017. Marjut designed the packaging while working at the advertising agency Womena in Helsinki, in the same year as her first commercial. Its biomorphic form was considered sculptural enough that the bottle was acquired for the collections of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
A 1973 television commercial for Postipankki, the Finnish post office bank, designed and animated by Marjut Rimminen. Live action in a set made from Marjut’s illustration. She animated the grass to wave in the wind, and the birds flying. It was made in black and white, since most people still only had black and white televisions.
