Formia, Ksylitol

1978 · Commercial · 30 seconds

Formia / Ruutukuva

The red, green and yellow stripes of the packaging were the inspiration for this spot. Xylitol is a Finnish invention, and the commercial celebrates it. Drawn animation on paper, coloured with Magic Markers.

Drawing for Formia Ksylitol: a small red train runs out of a spiral along a road striped orange, green and red, past telegraph poles. Drawing for Formia Ksylitol: a girl with plaits, in a skirt striped orange, green and red, hugs a birch tree and waves a small Finnish flag against a pale blue sky. Drawing for Formia Ksylitol: the red train rushes head-on down the striped road towards the viewer, its headlights round and white. Drawing for Formia Ksylitol: two curly-haired faces in big round glasses kiss, the lenses and their necks striped red, green and orange.

Timo Arnall as a small fair-haired child in a blue jumper, drawing at Marjut’s animation desk among her papers, a striped drawing in the foreground.
Timo at the animation desk

Timo likes to sit on my animation desk and draw with my Stabilo pens. He was very careful to put the top back on.
