Weekend, fashion

1984–1987 · Commercial · 15 seconds

Sokos / Womena / Vistakuva

Live action throughout, with no animation in it. The set is a painted flat of calm sea, blue sky and a few clouds behind a low white rail, and the word WEEKEND is built into the picture as tall inline serif capitals rather than supered over the top, so models walk in front of it and blank out letters as they move. Long cross dissolves hold two takes on screen at once, a full length figure showing through a close-up of a woman in a cream blouson, which keeps the backdrop continuous while the clothes change and gives the film its only motion beyond people turning to camera. A red and blue angular sail mark sits above the horizon and the soundtrack is one word sung over and over, weekend, weekend. There is no product to hold up and no price, address or telephone number, so the ending is solved by letting SOKOS appear in black capitals at the bottom right of the last shot, a couple leaning back on the rail.

A woman in a black jacket turns to camera, a man behind her by the rail. WEEKEND stands in tall white letters along a rail, a man ghosted mid-dissolve above it. Two models in pale suits stand either side of the lettering, arms held out. Close on a woman in a cream blouson jacket, hand on hip, hair backlit. Seen from behind, two models in pale trousers face the painted sea horizon. A couple in cream lean on the white rail; SOKOS sits bottom right.

Heard in the film, machine transcript, not checked: Weekend, weekend, weekend, weekend.
