Neste Alfa 2, winter

A camera low on a car runs down a snow-covered forest road, then down a summer road under a red evening sky, both framed the same way so that only the season changes while the Finnish voice-over promises top oil in winter and top oil in summer. The picture drops to black and a blue line grid opens out to the horizon, the road remade as an electronic drawing, and a black four-litre can stands on it with the grid firing out behind it in a starburst. Amber oil pours and loops into a glowing curl against the black. There is no drawn animation in this, the work is optical and graphic, and the invention is that a photographed can is planted in a space that could only have been built in a video suite. The pack shot then runs the same move in reverse, with Alfa 1 and Alfa 2 laid over the driving plates and the Finnoil, Kesoil and Union marks stacked beside them as flat cards, so the product finishes riding the road it started on.
