UPO Tehokarhut

Two white top-loading washing machines are photographed against a blue ground and then drawn on, given bear faces, eyebrows and paws in a loose wet black brush line that sits on the flat fascia as if the appliance were a sheet of paper. The best idea is the spin cycle: scribbled spirals turn on the front of each machine with a bear's arm caught tumbling inside them, so the work the drum is doing happens on the outside of the cabinet where it can be watched. In between, a drawn paw comes down at enormous scale into a live-action close-up of the control panel and presses the buttons and turns the programme dial, the ink shape landing exactly on the photographed switch. Red supers run the comparison, "PESUKARHU 3,3 KG" against "TEHOKARHU 2,3 KG" and then 900 against 1000 revolutions a minute, while the voice-over goes through the settings, among them a "seitsemän huuhtelun allergiaohjelma" ("allergy programme with seven rinses"). The machines are their own pack shot, so the film only has to hold on the pair of them laughing before the gold UPO mark arrives with a gold 50 and the word JUHLAVUOSI (anniversary year).

Two white washing machines on blue, each with a drawn cartoon face; a red caption gives their loads. A drawn black paw presses a button on the machine’s real control panel, seen close up. The same paw reaches for the programme dial; the panel reads PESUKARHU 9000 A. Both machines laugh as drawn whirls spin on their fronts, spin speeds captioned below. The two drums keep turning as scribbled spirals, the faces hidden behind them. Gold UPO wordmark above a gold 50 and the word JUHLAVUOSI on a pale ground.

What is said: Ja siis ratsutus loppu nyt, mikäli se on meistä kiinni. On seitsemän huuhtelun allergiaohjelma. Ja puoletunnin pikaohjelma semmoista pikkupyykkiä varten. Oh, kaveri Laura, yhdeksäsana kierro sen linkopää. Pyöriivallan pöntele. Mutta ei tassu tärise. Rupaa on viisikytveen.
