Visa Card

Nothing in this restaurant is filled in. Brown ink line on cream, an orange band for the floor and a dark band across the top, and everything else, waiters, diners, tables and trolley, drawn in a single boiling line with big noses and open mouths, fast and left unfinished. A waiter brings a bottle on a tray, a covered dish is wheeled in, a cook strides past behind the table, and at one point a continuous loop of line rises off a raised plate and sweeps right across the frame, doing duty as steam and as a flourish, a move available only to a drawn line. The voice-over says no other cards are needed and that Visa works in Finnish hotels and restaurants too. Then the film cuts to a photographed close-up, a Visa card lying on a printed bill beside a silver dish under the line "Vie perheesi ulos syömään" [Take your family out to eat], so the one solid object in twenty seconds is the card itself, and that does the work of the pack shot.
